Spring In Penang

The recent bout of mad weather in Penang (i.e. from torrential rains to zero rain; from thunderstorm to draught) has caused the trees that line our one-way streets to experience some pretty remarkable changes. It's like we've got 3 seasons here in Penang now! (Just no snow so no Winter. Boo hoo. T_T)

Summer days come often. No surprise there considering we're primarily a sunny island surrounded by not-so-clean-anymore beaches. Followed by Autumn where the streets become littered with falling leaves and dried twigs from the trees all around. But I'm not complaining. Cos the brown mess on the asphalt that clogs our drains becomes totally worth it when Spring arrives in brilliant colour. =)

Trees topped off with bright yellow blooms!

 Closer up.

 More yellow flowers!

Again, closer up.

And it's not just yellow flowers that have stolen a smile or two from me. We've got pink-topped, purple-filled and red-spotted trees, too! I'll try to capture some pictures to show you. But I'm a little late cos the blooms are disappearing just as quickly as they appeared! I've only found the yellow ones present in the last two days so... keep your fingers crossed and hope with me!

– Oh yeah! Now that you mentioned it, it does seem as though they always appear at this time of year. Haha.

Your Por Por used to call them "Cheng Beng Hua".

Por Por used to call them "Cheng Beng Hua" and they are especially dangerous for motor-cyclists as they are very slippery when wet.

– Never noticed that they bloom during Cheng Beng. But we had those pretty pink ones, too! And the fiery red ones as well. Oh, and don't forget the purple ones that took over entire trees.
