Number One Girl

Liked this song when it first came out.
5 months later, I’m liking it still. 🎢🎡

--------

Artist: RosΓ©
Title: Number One Girl

Tell me that I'm special, tell me I look pretty
Tell me I'm a little angel, the sweetheart of your city
Say what I'm dying to hear, 'cause I'm dying to hear you

Tell me I'm that new thing, tell me that I'm relevant
Tell me that I got a big heart, then back it up with evidence
I need it and I don't know why, this late at night

[CHORUS]
Isn't it lonely?
I'd do anything to make you want me
I'd give it all up if you told me that I'd be
The number one girl in your eyes
Your one and only
So what's it gon' take for you to want me?
I'd give it all up if you told me that I'd be
The number one girl in your eyes

Tell me I'm going real big places, down to earth, so friendly
And even through all the phases, tell me you accept me
Well, that's all I'm dying to hear, yeah, I'm dying to hear you

Tell me that you need me, tell me that I'm loved
Tell me that I'm worth it and that I'm enough
I need it and I don't know why, this late at night

[CHORUS]
Isn't it lonely?
I'd do anything to make you want me
I'd give it all up if you told me that I'd be
The number one girl in your eyes
Your one and only
So what's it gon' take for you to want me?
I'd give it all up if you told me that I'd be
The number one girl in your eyes

The girl in your eyes (eyes)
The girl in your eyes (eyes)
Tell me I'm the number one girl
I'm the number one girl in your eyes
The girl in your eyes (eyes)
The girl in your eyes (eyes)
Tell me I'm the number one girl
I'm the number one girl in your eyes

[CHORUS]
Well, isn't it lonely?
I'd do anything to make you want me
I'd give it all up if you told me that I'd be
The number one girl in your eyes
Your one and only
So what's it gon' take for you to want me?
I'd give it all up if you told me that I'd be
The number one girl in your eyes
The number one girl in your eyes

Non-Monday Blues

What does it mean when you feel neck deep in
Monday morning blues on a Friday night? πŸŒŠ

--------

Currently listening to Lean On Me (κΈ°λŒ€) by Jeon Sang Keun (전상근) on repeat. So many feels though I'm not 100% sure what the lyrics really mean. My Korean is K-drama-level pathetic and Google – like everything else – is intent on failing me tonight so I can't find out for sure either. But... it sure does seem to sound the way I feel inside – blue. 😞

Someone... anyone...
Accurately translate this song for me please?

Lau Gin Na: It's All In The Name

I was feeling a little worn out so thoughtful Ethan insisted that I should go lie down. He decided to grab his Samsung Galaxy Tab A to play me a relaxing song on YouTube. "To help you rest," he says. How sweet. ☺️ I was wondering which song he would choose and half expected to hear Intentions from the speakers cos he's had #BieberFever for awhile now – #kidsthesedays πŸ˜… – but to my surprise, he picked this one:

"Goodnight to you. Goodnight to me.
Now close your eyes and go to sleep.
Goodnight. Sleep tight. Sweet dreams tonight.
Goodnight. I love you."

I was familiar with this video and it totally brought back memories of days gone by. The boys probably don't remember it by now but I used to play them this video when they were younger. Nostalgic, I started singing along to the relaxing tune and this conversation ensued...

JJ: Wait. What? You know this song?!?

Pam Song: *dramatically* I know ALLL the songs, Baby.

JJ: *eyes wide like saucers* What?!?

Pam Song: *matter-of-fact tone* That’s why I’m called Pam Song ma.

JJ: *thoughtfully* Ohhhh!!

Pam Song: πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I may not have gotten any rest,
but I definitely felt better after this. ❤️

Thankful For EVERY Plan

🎢 “Syukur untuk setiap rencanaMu
Dan rancanganMu yang mulia” 🎡
– Doa Kami by True Worshippers

Can you continue to sing this to your God regardless of your situation? Cos I can. And I can because my God's plans are good, for He is good.

For I know the plans I have for you,”
declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you
and not to harm you, plans to
give you hope and a future.

Tangerine Vs. Tambourine

JJ is surprisingly perceptive when it comes to books and stories. He may not be able to read all the words just yet, but he is able to logically make sense of the story based on the illustrations presented to accurately answer questions and predict scenarios.

While reading Oliver’s Fruit Salad by Vivian French that he borrowed from class over breakfast this morning, he pointed to the jar of jam the main character was holding and said...

JJ: The blue one is blueberry jam.

Pam Song: Oh! And the red one is...?

JJ: Strawberry jam.

Pam Song: And the orange one?

JJ: Orange... jam?

Pam Song: Probably not. It’s probably tangerine jam.

JJ: Can you buy tambourine jam?

JJ's Thoughts On Rapunzel From Tangled

I love my drives with my kids (when they're well-behaved and quiet πŸ˜† #conditionallove LOL!). They remind me of the good time when melsong used to ferry me around in her PCH682 faithful ol' Proton Saga. And now that my kids are older, we listen to songs sometimes and chat sometimes. Sometimes, we chat about songs, too.

So, today, in the car, while we were
listening to Tangled OST, JJ said...

JJ: *seriously* Mommy?

Pam Song: Yeah?

Ethan: Rapunzel doesn’t shower. She is a dirty girl.

Pam Song: πŸ˜…

Hahahaha. Quite true leh.

Cinderella showers in the morning. Little Mermaid did, too, when she first got on land. Mulan took a bath in the river. The rest... I can't remember somehow. Did Belle shower before her big date with the Beast? Hmmm... πŸ€”

There's Song-Worthy Joy In Living

The Husband drives and almost kisses
(read: crashes into) the back of a bus. 🚌

The Husband: *jams the breaks* Whoaaa. Didn’t see that.

*heard from the back seat in a sing-song voice*

JJ: Yaaaayyy-ay-ay-ay... We didn’t die-ie-ie-ie-ieeee...

πŸ˜… Thanks, JJ. Yay indeed. πŸ˜‚

If only we could all find such joy in living.

A Wife At Five & A Girl Worth Fighting For

Someone The Husband and I knew had just gotten married and well, his brand new wife sure looked urm... nice... during their wedding. *cough* Not. *cough* 😬

That night, I felt led to urge The Husband to pray for our sons and their future wives – our future daughters-in-law – during our nightly, bedtime prayer. As a mother, it’s my deepest hope and greatest desire that JZ and JJ choose wisely, so our family grows with people we genuinely enjoy having around for forever, and not just out of obligation because of some legal paper.

The next day, as I was driving JZ to school,  the topic somehow came up again while we were listening to the soundtrack of Disney's Mulan. The lyrics of the song "A Girl Worth Fighting For" hit me in an unexpected way...

Artist: Various Artists
Title: A Girl Worth Fighting For

[Army]
For a long time we've been
Marching off to battle

[Yao]
In our thundering herd
We feel a lot like cattle

[Army]
Like the pounding beat
Our aching feet aren't
Easy to ignore

[Ling]
Hey, think of instead
A girl worth fighting for

[Mulan]
Huh?

[Ling]
That's what I said:
A girl worth fighting for
I want her paler than the
Moon with eyes that
Shine like stars

[Yao]
My girl will marvel at my strength
Adore my battle scars

[Chien Po]
I couldn't care less what she'll wear
Or what she looks like
It all depends on what she cooks like
Beef, pork, chicken
Mmm

[Yao]
Bet the local girls thought
You were quite the charmer

[Ling]
And I'll bet the ladies love
A man in armor

[Army]
You can guess what we
Have missed the most
Since we went off to war

[Ling]
What do we want?

[Army]
A girl worth fighting for

[Yao]
My girl will think I have no faults

[Chien Po]
That I'm a major find

[Mulan]
Uh, how 'bout a girl who's got a brain
Who always speaks her mind?

[Yao, Ling, and Chien Po]
Nah!

[Ling]
My manly ways and turn of
Phrase are sure to thrill her

[Yao]
He thinks he's such a lady killer

[Chi Fu]
I've a girl back home who's
Unlike any other

[Yao]
Yeah, the only girl who'd
Love him is his mother

[Army]
But when we come home
In victory they'll line up
At the door

[Ling]
What do we want?

[Army]
A girl worth fighting for

[Ling]
Wish that I had

[All]
A girl worth fighting for
A girl worth fighting...

"A girl worth fighting for" – this made me think, you know. Not everyone prioritises the same things. But in the heat of youth and the whirlwind of romance, it’s easy to get swept up in the thrill of winning someone’s affection – especially if that someone is popular or is what the world considers "a good catch".

But what is a good catch, anyway? Beauty? Brains? Charm? To me, it’s about whether she’s the right girl – someone whose character reflects what truly matters in a relationship, whose values align with ours, and who would fit naturally and lovingly into our family. Aih... susah lah. πŸ˜…

----------------------

Dear God,

Guide my boys so that they may one day choose good wives. Let them grow with their heads and hearts in the right places, so they may focus on what is lasting and worthy – like faith and character – rather than what is fleeting and superficial, like beauty and charm.

Do not awaken love before it is ready. But when the time is right, direct their eyes and open their hearts only to those who are good, godly, and live by the fruits of Your Spirit – women who will love selflessly, live contentedly, speak thoughtfully, forgive freely, and parent with patience and grace.

May these women bring joy and not sorrow, happiness and not stress to my boys. May they strengthen, support, and grow in faith alongside their husbands through every season of life. May they draw the brothers closer to one another, and bring unity, peace, love, and joy into our family. Amen.

Level Of Goodness

When JZ was about 2yo, he started singing a song, "JZ is a good boy, JZ is a strong boy, JZ is a good, good boy." The words, of course, were replaceable and interchangeable as long as the tune remained in tact. Whenever he was naughty or cheeky, he would sing, "JZ is a naughty boy, JZ is a poo-poo boy, JZ is a smelly boy, etc etc..." and the list goes on.

We've started singing that with JJ as well so he's well familiar with the song and how it goes. I usually leave the first line hanging so they fill in the blanks themselves based on their behaviour and... well, today, this happened:

Pam Song: *in sing-song voice* JJ is a...?

JJ: *whispers back* Good boy.

Pam Song: How good? Very good or just a little bit good?

JJ: Just a little bit good.

Pam Song: Hahaha. Very honest. So who is very good?

JJ: *without skipping a beat* NOT KOKO!!! HAHAHAHA. *hysterical laughter*

LOL! This boy cracks me up!

If he's this witty and funny at 2y10m, I can't imagine what a joker and a trickster he'll be when he's in his teens. Koko had better watch out! πŸ˜‚

Dreaming With A Broken Heart

Artist: John Mayer Song
Title: Dreaming With A Broken Heart

When you're dreaming with a broken heart
The waking up is the hardest part
You roll out of bed and down on your knees
And for a moment you can hardly breathe

Wondering was she really here
Is she standing in my room?
No, she's not
'Cause she's gone, gone, gone, gone, gone

When you're dreaming with a broken heart
The giving up is the hardest part
She takes you in with her crying eyes
Then all at once you have to say goodbye

Wondering, could you stay, my love?
Will you wake up by my side?
No, she can't
'Cause she's gone, gone, gone, gone, gone

Now do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand?
Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand?
Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand?
Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my, roses in my hands?
Would you get them if I did?
No, you won't
'Cause you're gone, gone, gone, gone, gone

When you're dreaming with a broken heart
The waking up is the hardest part

It's been 3 days and 16 hours since you left us. 88 hours since we hugged and shared a teary goodbye at KLIA 2. And yet, I continue to find myself feeling heavy-hearted and blue because of the lack of you.

I instinctively want to tell you stories of all the funny and silly things JJ does so we can laugh about it together. But you're not around to listen to me to. I come home expecting to hear funny stories, too. But of course, I hear none. And up till now, JJ and I still find ourselves accidentally calling out your name when we need help.

Three nights ago, you got in touch and the kids shared hellos, goodnights and I-miss-yous with you over WhatsApp. Two evenings ago, JJ asked to send you video a video telling you about the flowers he picks from school. Just yesterday, JZ said, "I miss her a lot, Mommy. I want Aunty Jas to come back."

Sigh. It's really isn't easy moving on after two years of togetherness. Especially not when space and time (i.e. every waking moment) are shared. But all good things must come to an end. And I guess what they say is true – this really feels like a break-up. Mutual, but no less painful and heartbreaking.

Goodbye, Dear Jas.

Take care over there in Davao.
And may we meet again
someday, somewhere, somehow.

XOXO,
Pam Song

My God, My Healer

I have a testimony to share with you guys...

I've been having problems with my hands and fingers since awhile back. Last time it was cos I was working on the laptop a lot and typing. But that was bearable. It went away after I stopped working full time.

The pain and stiffness started up again when I was pregnant with Ethan. I googled and it seemed like carpal tunnel syndrome is common during pregnancy so I didn't concern myself over it much. It tapered off after Ethan came along but would recur once in awhile.

It came back with a vengeance during our trip to Japan. My fingers were freezing at Shirakawago and Takayama but I had to hold on tightly to Caden's jacket in case he slipped. During that time, my fingers would hurt really badly from gripping so hard while being numb from the cold. I had shooting pains accompanied by stiffness.

After we came back, it didn't go away. I would experience different intensities of pain, depending on what I do with my hands and what time of day it is. I couldn't wring out a cloth or open a bottle without my fingers hurting - sometimes a little, sometimes a lot.

It got so bad that I started googling nerve damage and carpal tunnel syndrome remedies 3 nights ago. I told The Husband I still need my hands as I am barely halfway into my life! I also started applying essential oils for pain relief and bone/arthritis/nerve healing.

 Here's where it gets good.

Last night, we attended our first cell group meeting with SIB - a church in KL. During worship, the cell host prophesied healing and deliverance over a bunch of physical ailments and spiritual issues. I was praying for someone else as he proclaimed those things.

But guess what??? After cell, when he asked who had any prayer requests, I realised that my fingers didn't hurt anymore!! The first time in a long time! As I prayed for another's healing, God was healing me! God is indeed good. He is ever faithful. And He performs instantaneous miracles like no man, doctor or oil can. My Jehovah Rapha. All praise and glory be to God.

"My God is so big, so strong and so mighty,
there's nothing my God cannot do.
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty,
there's nothing my God cannot do... for you!"

If even at 2yo toddler class, our little ones sing it in Sunday School... why is it that big ones like us so often forget the fact that there is truly nothing that God cannot do? #stillhuman #stilllearning #onemiracleatatime Thank you, Jesus, for giving me my hands back. πŸ€—

Les MisΓ©rables (2012)

The only way to watch this musical is at the cinema – in the dark, on the big screen, with surround sound. (Or in London or on Broadway, of course. =p) To be honest, I didn't thinks so earlier in spite of how much some friends have gushed about it online. Was just planning to download and watch it on iPad. Harhar. How blasphemous. =p But this *points below* c-o-m-p-l-e-t-e-l-y changed my mind:

Unfortunately, I don't know when
a visit to the cinema will be possible. :-/

A Thousand Years (The Light Room Version)

Artist: Christina Perri (Feat. Steve Kazee)
Song Title: A Thousand Years (The Light Room Version)

Christina Perri performs her song "A Thousand Years"
in an exclusive recording session live at The Fortress in
Los Angeles, CA for The Live Room on The Warner Sound.

The day we met, frozen I held my breath
Right from the start, I knew that I'd found a home for my...
Heart beats fast, colours and promises
How to be brave, how can I love when I'm afraid to fall
But watching you stand alone
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow

One step closer

[CHORUS]
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling, don't be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

Time stands still, beauty in all she is
I will be brave, I will not let anything
Take away what's standing in front of me
Every breath, every hour has come to this

One step closer

[CHORUS]
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling, don't be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more
And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

Mmmm...
Woo ooo...

One step closer
One step closer

[CHORUS]
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling, don't be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more
And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

Not a big fan of Perri's lazy drawl in this version but still, it's hypnotic and totally bewitching all the same. Love the acoustic touch max. Was nice that she included the first two lines, too. I wonder why they weren't in the original version of the song. Hmmm... To be understood when I finally watch Breaking Dawn Part 2?

Todrick Hall Sings For Food

Literally.

This dude actually sings his orders at fast food outlets and drive-thrus. More surprisingly, the cashiers and service staff can actually get his "complicated order" correctly! Very cool beans. Not new on the web... but definitely worth a watch.

I hope you enjoyed my
top three favourite orders. =)

Anyhew, it's Friday.
Whatchu doin' online??
Go have a great weekend!

Missing Christmas

I'm at home, sitting upstairs, in the study, right next to the balcony, sweating like a pig, and melting from the supreme heat of our tropical noon-day sun, when all of a sudden...

...I miss Christmas. =(

Sigh.

I've come to realise that Christmases have somehow
become significantly less Christmas-y for me over the years. :-/

Maybe it's cos I've stopped downloading music. (That includes downloading Christmas tunes to celebrate the season, too.) Heck, maybe it's because I've pretty much stopped listening to music altogether. I used to listen to music whenever I drive. Now, I sometimes drive in silence when I'm alone; and when The Husband's in the car with me, there's even less reason to have the radio (or any other music, for that matter) on.

I used to wake up to song and go to bed with it, too. But that was back when I was flying solo and living it up on my own in a rented room. That's how my housemates knew I was awake, alive and kicking. Haha. But when you've got someone else in the room to talk to, you tend not to resort to music for entertainment or comfort. Plus, it gets difficult settling on music that both can enjoy. (The Husband and I don't always have the same taste in music. I personally think my taste is better. =p)

Also, I think singletons tend to have more fun Christmases. My housemates and I used to put up our tree together (we had a teeny-tiny 1ft tree – HARHAR), string lights around our staircase banister/railings, put presents under the tree (for exchange of gifts), and blast Christmas songs MONTHS before Christmas arrived. It was all very fun, light-hearted, cheery and celebratory.

Christmas celebration at the time was something for us to look forward to amidst the truckload of assignments and boring college work we had to deal with. It also served as a final get-together for all the housemates (who were also friends) to round up the year before we said our 'goodbyes' and return to our hometowns till next year came around.

I miss those times. And I miss having my "Christmas song of the year" to turn to. You know, I used to prepare a whole Christmas playlist before Christmas and have at least one of the tunes on repeat on iTunes till way past the new year. Now, I don't even have a single Christmas tune in mind for 2012 yet! In fact, what did I listen to during the Christmas of 2011? I have no idea. -_-''' The last time I had a "Christmas song of the year", it was 2010. Sigh. Too long ago, too long ago.

Ok, this is getting depressing.

Excuse me for awhile, folks.

I need to go find a Christmas album
to download NOW. Catch ya later.

Begin Again

Artist: Taylor Swift
Song Title: Begin Again

Took a deep breath in the mirror
He didn't like it when I wore high heels but I do
Turn the lock and put my headphones on
He always said he didn't get this song but I do, I do

Walked in expecting you'd be late
But you got here early and you stand and wave, I walk to you
You pull my chair out and help me in
And you don't know how nice that is but I do

[CHORUS]
And you throw your head back laughing like a little kid
I think it's strange that you think I'm funny cause he never did
I've been spending the last 8 months thinking all love ever does
Is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday in a cafe, I watched it begin again

You said you never met one girl who
Had as many James Taylor records as you but I do
We tell stories and you don't know why
I'm coming off a little shy but I do

[CHORUS]
And you throw your head back laughing like a little kid
I think it's strange that you think I'm funny cause he never did
I've been spending the last 8 months thinking all love ever does
Is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday in a cafe, I watched it begin again

[BRIDGE]
And we walked down the block to my car
And I almost brought him up
But you start to talk about the movies
That your family watches every single Christmas
And I want to talk about that
And for the first time, what's past is past

[CHORUS]
And you throw your head back laughing like a little kid
I think it's strange that you think I'm funny cause he never did
I've been spending the last 8 months thinking all love ever does
Is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday in a cafe, I watched it begin again
But on a Wednesday in a cafe, I watched it begin again

Same girl, different guy.
The latter is what makes all the difference.

Yup, being with the right guy
makes all the difference. =)

You Don't Know Me

Artist: Jann Arden
Song Title: You Don't Know Me (OST My Best Friend's Wedding)

You give your hand to me and then you say hello
And I can hardly speak, my heart is beating so
And anyone can tell you think you know me well
But you don't know me

No, you don't know the one who dreams of you at night
And longs to kiss your lips, longs to hold you tight
Oh, I am just a friend, that's all I've ever been
Cause you don't know me

I never knew the art of making love
No, my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy I let my chance go by
The chance that you might love me, too

You give your hand to me and then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away beside the lucky guy
Oh, you will never know the one who loves you so
Well you don't know me

You give your hand to me and then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away beside the lucky guy
Oh, you will never know the one who loves you so
Cause you don't know me
Oh, no, you don't know me
Ohh... you don't know me

It's sad when you come to realise that the people
whom you've always thought should know you best
...actually don't know you at all.

T.H.E (The Hardest Ever)

When T.H.E (The Hardest Ever) by will.i.am featuring Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger came on the radio, The Husband turned up the volume. @_@ The man's taste in music has definitely changed over the years and I'm somewhat pleased that his musical repertoire has grown to include songs that don't fall in the Alternative Rock category.

I looked at him and laughed. He told me he thought the hook was catchy. Hmmm... Catchy? Maybe so. But only for like 5 seconds. After that it gets boring as hell cos J.Lo only has ONE line to repeat over and over and over again:

"You can go hard or you can go home
You can go hard or you can go home
You can go hard or you can go home
You can go hard or you can go home
You can go hard or you can go home
You can go hard or you can go home
You can go hard or you can go home
You can go hard or you can go home"

@_@ Catchy?
Not the word I'd use for it. :-/

Anyway, just so you know, we BOTH heard "You can go high or you can go low" instead of the right lyrics – HAHAHAHA, wth?? Pekak sial! So this conversation we had afterwards was based on what we knew then. Not what I just Googled not two seconds ago. =p

Pam Song: What's this song about anyways?

The Husband: Opposites. (Answered me without skipping a beat, man. Mana tau talking nonsense. The song is SO not about opposites. *snorts*)

Pam Song: Then why did they just give her one line? Why not sing, "You can go high or you can go low, you can go fast or you can go slow" instead? At least mix it up a little ma.

The Husband: *straight-faced* It depends on the singer's capacity. That's all she can remember.

Pam Song: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Good one.

Yup. You can go hard or you can go home x 8 it is then. =p
