Granny Smith Seedlings!!!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw them. Cos, like, ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME??? Infant Granny Smith trees are freaking growing in my freaking home without me freaking knowing it!! =D =D =D LOOK!!!

Five little Granny Smith seedlings.

How crazy-amazing is that, right??

*cartwheels all around*

I mean, just look at it up close!!

A seedling. I'm holding the root.

Haha. I know, I know. It looks like taugeh. Trust me, I did a double take, too. But it couldn't have possibly been taugeh cos I don't eat taugeh so I don't cook taugeh so there wouldn't be any taugeh in my home. So it's gotta be Granny Smith seedlings. You'll agree with me when you see the seed.

A bit of green popping out from a little apple seed.

Another seedling at another growth stage.

I could have just washed them down the drain or tossed them into the bin but... ARE YOU MAD??? I would never!!! THESE ARE MY BABIES!! (Without little feet. -_-''') Thing is, I didn't have any soil in my home (the cost of living in high-rise buildings with no personal gardens) to keep them alive and growing so I planted them in the next best thing: Nutritious fruit pulp.

My precioussss...

Oh, I hope the five of you grow
into beautiful apple trees someday.<3

UPDATE AT 9:45AM ON 23 MARCH 2012: OMG, HELP!! I kept them indoors near the sink and one of the leaves is starting to brown! Does anybody know what kind of condition apple seedlings are supposed to be placed in?? Does anybody know if they can survive in Malaysian weather!?

No soil, so hot, how to survive?

Put them into a pot with soil NOT fruit pulp. Perhaps put them in a shady area but still have excess to some sunlight ie balcony? Find time and go to a plant seller and ask for advice.

Wow! Sorry I have no tip... but can I ask - how did you get the seedlings? Just leave the seeds in a bowl of pulp? I wanna try too!

– They grew without soil also wat!

– I doubt the local plant sellers know how to plant Granny Smith tress. Can you ask your Aussie plant sellers for me? Temperature indoors is about 25ÂșC. I put them in the shade next to the sink and still one leaf turned brown. I doubt they'll make it in the sunlight. :-/

– Haha. How? It just happened in my sink! Some apple seeds got washed down the drain and because they were seeds, I didn't think of throwing them out for fear of rotting cos... do seeds rot very quickly? Anyway, a couple of days later... BOOM! Seedlings! You try!

p/s: My drain's a little dark.

Babe, I asked my friend about this. She said try putting the seedlings in a pot of soil in a shady area of your balcony where it can also get some sunlight.

– Ooo, your friend has apple trees??? What kind? I read that Granny Smith apples don't pollinate on their own so my plans at a Granny Smith orchard may be screwed. Haha.

And to be honest, I don't know if they're still alive. I'm back in Penang for now. Will only be going back down to KL tmr. So that's 3-4 days without water. :-/

My friend has red apple trees. Not sure what sorta red apples though. Why would you want a Granny Smith orchard when you're currently living in an apartment?

Maybe at the moment, when you're back in KL, perhaps put them on a piece of cotton wool soaked with water if you don't have soil (that's if they're still alive, lol). I read online too that they said you can germinate the seeds in a bag of moistened soil in the fridge till they sprout.

- Too late. They're all dead. Dried up over the weekend that I wasn't around. T_T

Zhen Ying said...

Damn...... Try again, babe. You still lots of Granny Smiths apples ya?

Pam Song said...

ATTN: Zhen Ying
– Yeah, I do. I buy them every week. But then... it's not the same. T_T These grew by fluke!

Thanks, Pam. *rushes out to to buy granny smiths*
