Three Simple Steps

Last night, while channel surfing, The Husband suddenly turned to me with his eyes opened wide and said, "Your favourite show is next!" To that I replied a little too enthusiastically, "Kardashian???" with my eyes equally as big as his. Haha.

Yup, that's right. The Husband and I follow Kourtney & Kim Take New York whenever it's on ASTRO. (Okay, fine, fine. I happily follow, he willingly watches. Satisfied?) (Oh, by the way, we watch The Kardashians, too, but are a little less on the ball with the happenings and latest family dramas.)

While watching, we very naturally end up talking about what we see, and begin to assess the situations the couples on the show find themselves in. We frown at the stress and uncomfortable silences that plague Kim and Kris' once-was marriage, then we laugh at how funny and weird Kourtney and Scott's together-but-not-married relationship is.

And guess what? We take away lessons from
the mistakes they make and the things they do right.

Based on the season finale we watched last night, we realised three things that Kourtney and Scott did right to make their "marriage" work. Three things that Kim and Kris clearly didn't practice. They are:

1. Laugh together. I may not agree with half the jokes Kourtney and Scott make at each others' expense, but I consistently see how laughter has always worked wonders in their relationship. The Husband puts it this way – "They're like kids." And he's right! Sometimes, a little bit of childish humour is necessary to keep the freshness alive in your relationship. After all, couple that laughs together, stays together, right? =)

2. Change for each other; adapt to one another; accept one another. Neither Kourtney nor Scott are perfect individuals on their own but both seem willing to accept each others' differences and make the best out of their situation. Scott ditched his party lifestyle and learned to "be a man" for Kourtney and Mason, while Kourtney learned to be more supportive of Scott and his dreams even though she didn't always find it easy to do so.

3. Live in reality, not in fantasy. Success in marriage takes work on both sides. Yup, WORK. It isn't always a bed of roses so don't get married expecting a fairytale to come true in a twinkle of an eye. Kourtney and Scott are somehow very realistic with their relationship. (Maybe cos Kourtney's memang a realistic person.) They don't sugarcoat things, or have unrealistic expectations of each other. What you see is what you get. Kim on the other hand confessed that she wanted the fairytale and we all know how that worked out for her in the end, don't we? :-/

So... yeah. That's what we learned from Kourtney and Scott in Kourtney & Kim Take New York's long-awaited season finale. Hope you learned something from this, too! =D

You watch the Kardashians too? I thought I was the only one watching them and sometimes feel my brain cells begin to die.
