The Golden Compass

So good, man! So good! No regrets. (Even though I'm so dead tired now that I'm just about ready to drop.) A must-watch for sure if you haven't yet. (Which, I'm willing to bet my new RM15 chest of drawers [Long story. Tell you some other time, kays?] that many of you qualify for front row seats in the Haven't-Yets' section. Hah!)

If you're into checking out budding young talents, talking polar bears and superstar Hollywooders *coughNicoleKidmancough* this is the movie for you. I was hooked from start to finish. Fantastic CG, fabulous cast – everything also good lah! Especially loved the way they gelled high-tech and old-school together throughout the movie. (Catch no ball? Go watch then only come back and talk.)

Me likey The Golden Compass a lot a lot!

*blink blink*

Wah, I actually watched it before the official release date, man!
Amazing. Not too bad for an I'm-still-at-the-office person like me, huh?
So happening lah I. Haha. I didn't know also.

Oh, and guys, RM12 at Pavillion or RM11 at Cineleisure also pay lah, okay. When it comes to movies, cannot kiam siap. You pay good money, you get tua teh, tua sia (Hokkien for 'big piece, big sound') movie. Sure tat-tat (Hokkien for 'very worth it') wan.

p/s: I'm so lagging behind on my movie reviews. Will post as soon as I find the time to gush about my latest movie crazes. Till then, see ya!

Ya lah. Quite good. Storyline and all that no choice lah. They follow the storybook mah. But everything else in terms of execution was great! Acting also good, the characters were expanded pretty well, CG was pretty much seamless... Go watch lah. Haha.

Ahhh, true. I went in for The Golden Compass not knowing what the movie was about also. Haha. I only knew that Nicole Kidman was in it. That's all. So, I guess there was no reason for me to expect much. As such, I was pleasantly surprised. Yay for me.

And ya lah! Teruk lah some movie-goers.

Eh my Dad was saying that this movie is not good cos it has atheist themes. The book it was based on (from the trilogy His Dark Materials) has these themes too. I mean, they call those creatures who have human souls daemons lah..it sounds too much like demons..no?

welovepenang said...

i had just came back from the movie... it is a good one... but somehow i am expecting more when approching the end of the movie........ but it just ended in that way....

– Haha. Why your adventures in the cinema so drama wan?

ATTN: DelvC
– Haha. We watch something else lah. But hor... By the time you come back, I go back Penang for holidays di. You arriving 24th right? January lah. January most probably can. But you all have to meet me at the cinema. I go right after work.

ATTN: Lesley
– Aiyo... Babe ah, it's not like you dunno how to interpret what's biblical and what's not right? Watch it like it's a MOVIE. Plus, if you know what you believe in well enough, so what if they're saying something else? This is like Harry Potter and The DaVinci Code all over again. Plus, if you don't watch it, you won't be able to talk to others about it. And THAT just proves what they say about Christianity right – that we're all katak di bawah tempurung who live in our ivory towers, sing hymns and read Bibles all day long.

The "demons" are like the human soul in the movie. It's just that they are CALLED demons. That's all. Relek lah. Personally, I see nothing wrong with watching the movie. In fact, the CG is so good that I would recommend it. =)

ATTN: welovepenang
– Not bad huh? But ya lah. I agree. I thought the cliff-hanger ending wasn't too great. Like TOO hanging already. Frus, hor? But CG good lah. Acting also #1.

They changed A LOT from the book but it was still a great watch!

I want to be an armoured polar bear!!!!!!

You read the book!? Should I read it? Worth reading ah?

And I wanna have a demon. HAHA. I think mine would be some cool, kick-butt Kim-Possible-ish squirrel. HAHA.

"And THAT just proves what they say about Christianity right – that we're all katak di bawah tempurung who live in our ivory towers, sing hymns and read Bibles all day long." Ouch, that hurt =(, dunno why. I don't think I'm like that though..

Yeah I see your point, but then when you mean we can talk to others about it, don't you mean most importantly tell them your Christian views about the themes in the movie (because they might not see what's wrong with the themes) and not about the effects and all?

I mean it's fine if we're grounded when we watch it, but other people might not be, and when they watch it, they might get influenced right?

Hey there are a few groups in Facebook who are against the movie and here's what one says: THE GOLDEN COMPASS, a new movie targeted at children, will be released
December 7, 2007. This movie is based on a the first book of a trilogy
by atheist Philip Pullman. In the final book a boy and girl kill God
so they can do as they please. Pullman left little doubt about his
intentions when he said in a 2003 interview that "My books are about
killing God."
The movie is a watered down version of the first book and is designed
to be very attractive in the hope unsuspecting parents will take their
children to see the the movie and that the children will want the
books for Christmas.
The movie has a well known cast, including Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig,
and Sam Elliott. It will probably be advertised extensively, so it is
crucial that we get the word out to warn people to avoid this movie.

What do you think? Are you gonna get the book?

Sorry if I offended you in any way yeah. I'm glad writing this made me realise that when I talk about Harry Potter with my non-Christian friends, I can tell them about the stuff in it that is against Christian views so they won't assume that Christians are okay with everything in the books.

p/s: Thanks to you, I realised that (refer to the last paragraph in my previous comment). Thanks Pam =)!

Yay a few more hours to Christmas =D! Have yourself a fantastic Christmas Pam =D!

– Awww. Sorry if it hurt, babe. Didn't mean for it to come out that way. I'm not saying you're like that. I meant that a lot of people THINK that we're like that. That's all.

To be continued...
