RM11.24

I've had a mini collection of 1 sen coins that I've kept since like, forever. Didn't know what to do with them till I realised I'd better start thinking of something to do with them. Malaysia's ridding us of them for good, remember? So before I find myself running a loss (FYI, Penang kia very kiam wan. Cannot do anything to buta-buta lose money wan.), I figured I'd better convert them all to some REAL money I can put to good use.

So, to the bank I went, with my mini pouch
of earthly fortune held tightly in my hand.

I got the pouch from a friend a few years ago.
I think it was a Christmas gift. But then again,
maybe not. I'm not sure. I can't remember. =p

As you can see from the way my palm and fingers strained
against the weight of the pouch, it was heavy. Very heavy.

And heavy means a lot of money.
(In quantity lah. In value, a bit different.)

The bank called a few hours after I deposited the coins to tell me that I'm getting RM11.24 for it. Not bad, right? Haha. For that mini pouch. But then, they said that that amount comes AFTER a 5% transaction fee for coin processing.

WHAT!?

What in the world is a coin processing transaction fee!?
My goodness! Maybank is such a total rip-off!!!

If RM11.24 is but 95% of my total, my total would have been RM11.831579. Hmmm. Not much of a diff but... RM0.591579 also want ah!?! Take lah! Take! TAKE IT!!! Take my Snoopy pouch while you're at it. HMMPH!

Haha. Ya lah! Never read newspaper leh. HAHA. It'll be history by next year. Can't remember which month, though. Everything gets rounded up to the nearest 5sen. =)

See? You learned something today. Whoever said that blogging and blog surfing is a waste of time just didn't know which blogs to read. =p

– Ya lah! Terrible right? Ish. I tell you ah, Malaysia's banking system doesn't reward ppl who deposit money wan. In Australia and all that, they give such high interest rates for ppl who wanna save. Here, they TAKE AWAY our money summore. Ish.

ATTN: Abby
– What a shame. It's embarassing. 50sen also want. Tsk tsk.

ATTN: adrian
– RM11.83 not much but very heavy to carry around mah. You think very light ah? When I was walking to the bank with my colleagues, I asked one of them to catch and I threw it to them. The fella almost stumbled over cos it was so heavy for such a teeny tiny pouch.

fyi it is on 1st April 2008 and it is rounded to the nearest 5sen equivalent.

– At least it entertains me enough to be able to do something rather than invent new recipes. *wink*

ATTN: SlowCatchUpKuan
– Haha. A reader told me that the last day is 1 April so you might as well keep all of yours till then and then change all together. Easier. Haha.

ATTN: syikin
– Wah! You're a rich woman then. HAHA. Sorta. But why you wanna keep so much? I'm sure you're one of those who kept the old 50sen coins and RM20. Are you? And why you leave that link after that wan? Haha. Your blog?

after seeing ur this post, i think is my time to gather up my 1cent coin to convert into real cash liao!! :D

who knows..might get more than urs :P

Pam Song said...

Haha. Do it! Mine actually wasn't so much also. Small pouch only. Mana tau can get RM11.24. If you've got more it'd be a whole lot easier. Haha. Anyway, better change and covert to "real" cash rather than leave all those 1sen lying around, right?

Well it's worth more because of the value in metal alone. And Syikin (ZACKIRE) ...Don't you dare TOUCH MY BOTTLE OF OLD COINS. I still love my old One CENT coins minted in the Pre Merdeka Period.

Which reminds me...I just changed by coins to the nearest Petronas the other day.. $458.92! in odds and ends...

– Whoa. Why your nickname so terror wan? Haha.

Anyway, you know Syikin? Haha. But hey, are you talking about the square one sen coins? I have quite a number of those. Kept them since my dad's time. He just passed them on to me. Dunno what to do with them, actually. Just keep and collect dust only. I doubt if selling them will make me a fortune. Not yet.

And why did you have to go to Petronas to change coins?! Don't you go to a bank to get that done? And hey, did they charge you that pathetic coin processing transaction fee they charged me? HAHA.

ATTN: BaBy_oN_BoArd
– I didn't head to Bank Negara lah. Just went to any bank and banked in the money into my account. Easier. Why go all the way to Bank Negara? Haha. And as for keeping the coins, I may lah. Maybe 5 or something. Just for fun. Sure lost by the time I wanna do anything with them anyways. -_-

Pam Song said...

Pimping my site? Like how? Haha.

And yeah, I also have. But I kept the new ones lah. RM2 you never keep ah? That was probably the shortest lived note ever, man. Haha.

Didn't bother keeping RM1 coins though. Dunno why. Just didn't want them anyways. Be banished! I don't care. They were heavy. Haha.

Easy! Just go to any bank that you have an account with and credit the money in loh. So easy, right? Very few actually allow you to change money wan. Only can bank in. So you've gotta make sure you have an active account there. =)
