even for someone who drives a company vehicle most of the time like me, i feel the pinch.

really, for a net exporter of top grade crude oil....with petronas making hundreds of billion of ringgit over the years with country's natural resources...we are made to pay so much for so little.

our cars soo expensive yet so low quality; our public transport so expensive yet so unreliable; our roads built with our tax money yet we still have to pay for so much toll; our airline survived on our tax money yet the airfares so expensive; our living cost sooo high yet our per capita income so low.....

what kinda stupid idiotic incompetent politicians are running our country anyway???

This hike will be causing much more suffering to the poor then it will to us. Come August it will be worse.

I agree the government should remove the subsidies gradually. We're too spoilt. All our problems is because the government shielded us for too long for the market price realities. Now we can't live without it.

Other countries are living without the subsidies, we're just starting to wean ourself of it.

The subsidy money could be spend better else where like public transportation, better health care, etc.

Anyway, cars burning petrol bad for environment, use less of it.

I dont think I mind if the public transport is currently as good as in the States....

The promise on the public transportation that the federal gov has made a year ago has yet to be realised in Pg...Im wondering what are those guys doing at Putrajaya? Haih....Malaysia memang Boleh...=(

Luxen: I will be gladly to pay for the full petrol price lor if the gov removes the taxes on cars....You will be surprised with the amount of taxes that the gov came out with especially on cars...STOP PROTECTING PROTON!

– Of course. It's damn sakit. Really really sakit. Sigh. If you were anywhere near a petrol station just now, I'm sure you saw the rows and rows of cars. I think they wiped out all the petrol stations. The one I was near closed at 9PM!!! Crazy!

But it's ridiculous to increase fuel prices without doing anything about the public transportation.

"...our living cost sooo high yet our per capita income so low....."

This, I TOTALLY agree! Haih. There's no way any company should offer an RM1800 starting pay to a fresh grad lah now. No way. Cannot survive.

ATTN: Chee Hoe
– You mean there's ANOTHER one??? I thought they said it would be August then mana tau it's today. So with that, I thought end of story already. There's another one so soon??? That's it lah. Time to run.

ATTN: luxen
– This is so not gradual lor. And if anything, I think that the comparison between countries is insubstantial. Hello, they earn so much more than we do. Like Sheon said, "...our living cost sooo high yet our per capita income so low....." So technically, it makes it more ex for us than it is for them, even WITH the subsidised rate.

Take Australia for example. A full tank of gas there is about AUD55. Here, it's about RM80. Fresh grad pay there is about AUD3000 AND MORE while here it's RM1900. How does the math add up to you now?

And come on. You know how it is. Do you SEE better public transportation? I don't think that plans are even in the works yet. And don't mention the healthcare here lah. We don't even have medicare like Aus where EVERYBODY gets medication for free.

But then there's the whole issue of taxes. Haih. Cannot win wan lah, no matter what.

ATTN: Adrian Lim
– EXACTLY! It has to be good before you can do this kind of things wat. If not, I don't see it being justified. Not at all.

And you raised a good point with the car taxes. Very good point indeed.

ATTN: ming
– Woman, you cannot compare. Living costs there and here is totally different. How much is a carton of milk? How much does a loaf of bread cost? Compare that in terms of percentage to your pay and then compare it to the standard in Malaysia. Totally off okayyy. And if you didn't know, bread went up 30sen recently. -_-

Work here can die.

ming said...

here milk also very expensive!! and bread also..

when i first came here..the gas price was only 1.60usd per gallon.. now 4.30.. =__+

PAY RISE !! PAY RISE !!!

it's ok... food prices are expected to double anyway...

ATTN: ming
– Wow. Then actually you also quite "siong". =(

ATTN: zecount
– If only. Sigh.

ATTN: Anonymous
– WAH! It' ok?! Not okay lor!!! Like super not ok. Where'd you get your news on the food price increase?

Anonymous said...

wei .. it's kinda unfair rite??? everything going up but our pay??? Malaysia propaganda is very the bad lah ... onli put out the prices comparing the "low price" of our fuel .. but then fails to put that in comparison to our pay .. they think we all born yesterday is it???

Jono said...

I think we shouldnt complain. US and Aus, and worldwide still MUCH higher. It stings, but, tahanlah sikit ;D
Work harder, earn more loh. If not get better job loh. Haha

Anonymous said...

easier said than done lah jono .. and besides ..fuel in auzzie meh be higher but where in malayasia can u find 4 per kg of chicken wings??? and compared that to the price of commodidites and the income auzzies are getting ..way of a difference

but on a ligther note .. i wonder if it's just temporary cos i came out late today but the traffic seems relatively lighter and smoother ... plz tell me this is not an illusion ... could it be due to the price hike??

Pam Song said...

ATTN: zecount
– That's the way they fool some people into thinking it's alright for this to happen. Sheon said it right when he said, "our living cost sooo high yet our per capita income so low....."

ATTN: Jo-no
– Situational and economic factors make this different lah. And sure, work harder, earn more. But think about those who haven't had a chance to "prove themselves" like fresh grads. How to survive if you start off with RM1,800 now? It sounds easy but it's not.

Plus, even if you do get a better job, SOMEBODY ELSE will have to do YOUR job. So it still means that somebody's gotta face the fire. Situation doesn't change. SOMEONE's still earning low pay, and SOMEONE's still paying a LOT for petrol. Maybe it's not you, but how does that make it okay, then? A little selfish, don't you think? You're looking at ONE person. I'm thinking Malaysia.

ATTN: zecount
– It's not temporary lah. If anything, it's only cos ppl suddenly feel the pinch and they decide to carpool. The increase in price is permanent. No way the govt's gonna start wanting to pay the billions it did on subsidy again.

Anonymous said...

hmmm .. then there is a good side to this then .... though it's still "painful"

Pam Song said...

ATTN: zecount
– Well... I guess. If you wanna look at the bright side lah. Half full and all that. Still to me, it's super 'siong'.

sheon said...

this prolly the first time i get quoted so many times....feels important.........

eh....pay royalty can? for fuel? expensive leh...

i strongly think that the stupid politicians running this country of ours must find a way to help us improve our socio-economy, subsequently make us able to afford all these ... necessities ..rather than subsidising everything.

Pam Song said...

ATTN: sheon
– Haha. I'm making you fehmes. That's all the payment you're getting. Haha.

And you got a point with that last paragraph. Tough one to do if one race gets better benefits though.
