Yup, I flew 162 nautical miles and paid RM253 for return flight tickets to go all the way to an island 0.2% the size of Malaysia to watch Iron Man 2 before its official opening in cinemas worldwide.
It doesn't make logical sense but at least
I got to watch Iron Man 2 subtitle-free – HAH!

Too bad I didn't quite like it
as much as I thought I would.
*blink blink*
(Don't cry 'blasphemy' just yet.)
Robert Downey Jr. is still as cocky as ever and continues to display and dish out potent doses of textbook narcissism that got me smiling to myself. Gwyneth Paltrow was fairly good in her part but was easily forgettable. And Scarlett Johansson was an unnecessary pretty face and hot bod who can't fight for nuts.
I thought the plot and the general idea behind the story was okay but the build-up – although pretty good at parts – took too long to get to the really interesting bits. Bits where the Iron Man gadgettiers get to show off their stuff. Bits that brought out the jaw-dropping inventions and gadgets characteristic of the great Tony Stark.
Lots of unnecessary mess happens in between and before you know it, the inventing is over and done with. After which, I was disappointed by the fact that it all culminated into a pretty washed out fight scene.
In spite of the good chase-here-chase-there build-up, there wasn't much of a climax, the end fight with the biggest, baddest bad guy from Russia was waaay was too quick, and the superhero duo ended up winning in the lamest of ways. (Come on lah, that wasn't a spoiler at all. Everybody knows the superheroes always win.)
Can't say the same for the friends I went with though. I know of 2 who confirm-firm dozed off midway through. One was sitting next to me *points 10 fingers at The Lauder One* and the other was right in front of me *points 10 toes at Faz*. HAHA. And I thought I was the one who just finished a full day's work in KL, fought the crazy after-work jam, got on a flight at LCCT and made it to Singapore. =p
I wouldn't rave about Iron Man 2. But... for a sequel – considering the growing graveyard of other failed sequels – this one's not all bad. Having said that, I'd recommend that you watch it in the cinema on the big screen if you're planning on watching it at all. It is, after all, still an action flick with high-tech gadgets and a narcissistic superhero in a cool metal suit. But do try getting your tickets on cheap-movie Wednesdays. =p
p/s: If you're really into comic turn movies, don't leave the cinema even when the credits roll. You get tossed a tease for sitting tight. =)

I'm not saying it wasn't a good/entertaining movie.
I'm just saying I preferred Iron Man (the first) better.

Anyhoo, in conclusion...
(Wah, so long never use that already.
Not since my college days!)
