You Think What? You Superman Ah??

Saw this on Innit first thing in the morning.

Visited the link and saw this:

Frowned at it, closed the page then I thought to myself: Ok lah. Enough of being nice. If ONE person is going to cause people to take the spread of H1N1 lightly, SOMEBODY's gotta speak up. Even if it means making enemies in the long run. Sigh. For the better good of the people, right? (Che wah, sound so noble. Haha.) So, here goes.

This response is just plain STUPID. Let me tell you why. Just because YOU don't have weak lungs or any type of respiratory disease to worry about, you never know if those around you may have asthma or low immunity. Just because the risk of death for YOU is low and you're ok with contracting H1N1, it doesn't mean that others face that same risk or are as willing to contract it as you are! It's SELFISH to behave this way! Can't you see it??

Although H1N1 is a benign infection, it is HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS. Transmission is easy. One cough or sneeze in the wrong direction and that's it. You're toast if your immunity's low. If that's not reason enough for worry, then what is? And come on, do you really need the threat of DEATH before you're willing to start looking out for yourself and your health??

Sounds a little like someone's
trying to play Superman to me.

Anyhoo... since we're on the subject of H1N1 not causing death but an infection that brings harm to those with a history of respiratory disease or even to those with low immunity, it got me thinking (again). Hmmm. A disease that causes you to succumb to another health problem. Sounds a lot like this other pandemic I've heard of. What's it called again? Oh yeah, it's HIV AIDS.

Thing is... you can't get AIDS
from hanging out with an AIDS patient.

HIV is transmitted through direct contact of a mucous membrane or the bloodstream with a bodily fluid containing HIV, such as blood, semen, vaginal fluid, preseminal fluid, and breast milk. This transmission can involve anal, vaginal or oral sex, blood transfusion, contaminated hypodermic needles, exchange between mother and baby during pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding or other exposure to one of the above bodily fluids.

But you CAN get H1N1 if you're in
close proximity with those who are infected.

Hmmm. So if it works like HIV AIDS, and you don't die of HIV AIDS, then... that means it's ok to be infected? I mean, you don't die if you're HIV+ wat. So? Go get a blood transfusion from a HIV+ patient lah! Cannot die wan. Serious!

But wait. You still avoid it (HIV+ blood and AIDS patients) like the plague right??? Would you share needles with someone with AIDS? No. So should you then share space and air with someone who's contracted H1N1? NO also lah! Stupid ah?

This isn't about picking a fight. It's about the principle. I'm standing up against the misconception that misleading people into believing that something serious isn't bad enough to cause worry, is fine. It isn't. Time to grow up and see that. The presence of Influenza A H1N1 at Urbanscapes isn't a cause for panic (just yet). But it IS cause for concern.

Think you wanna take it lightly?
Think again and check this out.

On June 11, 2009, the WHO declared an H1N1 pandemic, moving the alert level to phase 6, marking the first global pandemic since 1968.[16]

So tell me now... Who are YOU
to say that H1N1's no cause for alarm?

So proud of you for taking the time and effort to speak up on behalf of common sense, which not that common.

Anyway, it's always better to be safe than sorry and prevention is definitely better than cure.

in philippines, in my opinion the officials want to let people think that dengue is more dangerous based on statistics. people should realize that its highly communicable. it spreads sooooo fast! and though, based on the news that it's not a potent virus. people should not belittle it. it can mutate it a very dangerous microbe, worse... can be hailed as the worst disease in the world since it mainly affects our respiratory system.

My two cents is that even though the "idiot" may be 100% correct, he/she still has the social responsibility to get himself check so that if he is infected, then he can take the precautionary measures to not spread it to anyone else.

For me, it's ok for people to makes their own choices (however stupid or idiotic it may seem, free will et. al.) but they may not choose to be selfish and disregard everyone elses in the process.

That dude is an idiot and deserved to be forcefully incarcerated. Then again that's me.

Interesting fact: The Japanese regard it as rude form if you do not wear a facial mask if you have any sort of flu like symptoms. Also in Sweden, it's extremely unprofesional to turn up for work sick.

– Yeah. Prevention is better than cure. Gotta do what I felt was right. It was on Innit. Imagine if the 70,000 bloggers on Innit think the same! Gone lah!

ATTN: YULI
– It's not potent on its own cos it's much like the flu but it gets potent when people allow it to get out of hand. Airborne viruses are the worst lah. You never know who has it and when you do know, it's usually too late.

ATTN: Storyteller
– You're right! It's about social responsibility. Really lah. Haih. I dunno how people can be so unfazed about this. It's shocking! Not to mention unbelievably irresponsible.

ATTN: zecount
– Hahaha. Preach it brudder!

ATTN: Spectre
– Kanasai.

ATTN: Lissa
– Haha. Don't worry. You can't get it from eating pork or pork products. =p

701 infected, to date, on the little island south of your peninsula. if i were your government, i'd ban people from crossing the overcrowded customs at the causeway. whether in or out.

singaporeans arent taking it lightly no more. im beginning to see concerned commuters wearing clinical masks or alighting trains at the next stop when someone nearby is coughing or sneezing.

it's one thing being insensitive and another being foolhardy. but this superman clearly exemplifies both!

– The numbers are escalating huh. It's the same here in Malaysia, too. And it's good that you guys aren't taking it lightly lah. I think on a whole, our govt is trying to take the necessary precautions but just that SOME people are choosing to ignore the warnings.

Superman needs to stop flying and start staying at home if he isn't feeling well.

ATTN: JenKin Yat
– Thanks for the support, Yatz. I just think that people should be aware that it's not something to play with.

ATTN: tsh
– HAHAHAHA. You're just using me as an excuse to skive. =p

I know. :D But some people will still be overly paranoid. That's when pork prices drop and us pork-eating people seize the opportunity. ^.^ Avian flu was awesome. :D Chicken prices dropped sooooo low. *_*

ATTN: jun
– Thanks, Jun! And yeah, I was annoyed at his couldn't-care-less response to this.

i still think it is right to quarantine the whole school because kids MIGHT die from this sickness. Even my sis and I avoided leaving the house and actually wanted to send our grandma to my aunt's place (but she refuse to let grandma in &^&*@#^). We did not go to church that day and stayed home the entire weekend till we felt better.

I think it's not being paranoid la. I mean if you are sick, and you still go out like nobody's business, fine, the one you hang out have strong immune system, they got it from u,wont die, but what about the people they hang out with? And the circle goes on and it might cause h1n1 spread like wildfire.

So I will still support the idea of STAY AT HOME WHEN YOU ARE SICK LA, HOI YAN HOI MATT (canto).

– That's very socially responsible of you! Kudos! It's good to know that there are still people out there who practice simple courtesy and common sense. =)
