Bak Kwa Bread

Bak Kwa Bread for tea, courtesy of Tiam Tiam.

I love Bak Kwa Bread. I could have Bak Kwa Bread for breakfast and tea every day and not get tired of it. Having said that, I miss the free Bak Kwa we used to get at MCKL every Chinese New Year. Penang's supplier generosity is seriously not up to par when it comes to important things like Bak Kwa.

Chinatown sells really expensive yucky tasting and looking bak kwa. And, you can't get the type of bun they use to kiap the bak kwa here. Summore, you can't find or make the gravy they use.

– Eee... I know. The kind that isn't dry enough. So it smells very strongly of pork. Yuck. I don't like that kind also.

And... mana ada gravy wan?? You talking about the right bak kwa bread or not?

Some bak kwa bread got gravy. The kind that you get from the stall that will heat the bak kwa over charcaol and serve it with steamed bun (the same type of bun you're holding). They'll put some gravy over the bread before kiap-ping the bak kwa. I remember there's a stall selling that kind of bak kwa bread Prima Tanjung along Fettes Park Road.
