Perth, August '12: Hippo Creek Meat & Wine, Subiaco

What The Husband and I never forgot about Perth was its amazing steaks at Hippo Creek African Grill at Hilary's Boat Harbour, Sorrento. We knew we had to go back for more. But because Sorrento is quite the drive away, we decided to go to its sister restaurant, Hippo Creek Meat & Wine, Subiaco for dinner instead.

The Husband and I have been here once before when they just opened back in 2010, and we remember not appreciating the steaks quite as much as we liked the ones at Sorrento. But... we were hoping things have improved since then.

This outlet is a lot more fancy and posh than the one at Sorrento though, which feels more laid back and relaxed. The environment is totally different. It's quieter. And the people come dressed up. Lots looked like they were the working crowd, meeting up with friends for dinner and wine after work.

Anyways, we went in, sat down
and picked up a menu each.

The list of steaks is actually pretty overwhelming and confusing if you're not familiar with fancy cuts and types of meats. (I.e. Uneducated people like me. -_-) I decided to play it safe and ordered a 250gm fillet, cooked Well Done. (Don't judge.) >( A starter of Garlic Bread was also ordered for us to share. But that took awhile to arrive. A little more than awhile, actually.

A Mini M&Ms to tahan perut while waiting for our Garlic Bread to arrive.

My portion of the Garlic Bread.

We thought the wait for our starter
took longer than necessary.

Well, the wait for our steaks was worse.

-_-'''

So we ordered another round of breads with
olive oil and vinegar dip to tide us through the wait.
(Sorry, no picture. Ready to die of hunger di.)

FINALLY... our steaks arrived.

My Well Done Fillet.

Mine, with a side of mash and mushroom gravy.

My mashed potato.

They offer a choice of Baked Potato or Fries instead of Mash, and a selection of sauces for you to choose from. I have no regrets going with the Mushroom Gravy but the Mash was weird. It had a funny smell and green-ish taste. Like they blended the potatoes together with spring onions. Bleh. I would probably have been happier with the Baked Potato.

My 250gm fillet, covered in Mushroom Sauce.

In hindsight, I probably should have gone with the lowest grade of Wagyu available instead of going with the fillet. I was told it was goooood. *regrets* -_-'''

We left immediately after dinner cos the kids were getting restless and fidgety – started making noise and climbing around. Didn't stay to enjoy the environment or take in the ambiance cos we were starting to receive disapproving looks and dagger stares from the other poshy patrons at the restaurant! Uh oh... (Told you it was a fancy place. :-/) I suppose it's a good thing we don't live in Perth. Hahaha. At least next time we go back, I'm sure they won't remember us. =p

After that, it was back home to bathe... and sleep!
