Kailis Bros. Fish Markets & Fish Cafe At Leederville

Late last month, I finally had my first taste of Fish & Chips in Perth. (It's really famous here but I hadn't had them even once since I arrived!) Took a drive to Leederville and decided on Kailis Bros. Fish Markets and Fish Cafe at Leederville for no better reason other than 'saja syok nak try-cuba'. Haha. This is Kailis Bros.

Taken from the right of the entrance. Haha.
Nobody dines alfresco style when it's too cold.

It's called Kailis Bro. Fish Markets & Fish Cafe cos... well, they actually have a wet fish market inside! Haha. One part market, one part cafe – that sorta thing. Very cool stuff. Surprisingly, the place didn't smell bad with the market. It did smell like lots of fried fish, though. =p The cafe part was really nice with lots of mood lighting (unlike the market part that was going full-fledged with fluorescent).

Ok, enough with all that.
Time for some F&B talk.

My Lemon Lime Bitter.
Always always Lemon Lime Bitter.

Still very possessive over my Lemon Lime Bitter
even after my order of Fish & Chips arrived. =p

I ordered a Snapper Something-Something with a side of Chips. (Or something that sounded like that from the menu.) And to my surprise, it came with a whole jar of tartar sauce (FREE! Usually have to pay wan!) and a jar of pickled red capsicum... which went even more surprisingly well when eaten together with the fish like so:

Pickled red capsicum on tartar sauce on battered fish.

YUMMY!

Wasn't as thrilled about the price though.

My Fish & Chips cost a whopping $34.90 AUD. (Might as well eat steak at Hippo Creek, duncha think?) And my LLB (Lemon Lime Bitter) cost $4.50 AUD. (This was also cheaper at Hippo Creek – $3.50 AUD only.) It's an ok price for the place, the service and the ambience lah. But I don't quite consider Fish & Chips fine dining. Haha. So, I doubt I'll pay Kailis another visit during this stay. But if YOU like paying exorbitant sums for just-a-little-better-than-ok Fish & Chips, go right ahead. =p

Cos apparently, other people in Australia
think it's totally worth it.

Haha. Not bad, huh?
(Saw that on their website today
while preparing for this post. =p)

Kailis Bros. Fish Markets & Fish Cafe is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, 7 days a week. I'd recommend going there over dinner though. More feeeeel with the tungsten lighting on. Plus, if you're paying that much for Fish & Chips, you might as well go after work when you can really sit and chill without rushing for the door or a deadline. =p

p/s: Just so you know, they don't just serve Fish & Chips at Kailis. (The calamari I saw on the next table looked really good! =p) It's a regular seafood restaurant with prawns, lobsters, squid etc. They just seem to specialise in fish-related dishes.

Ahhh... It's been quite a while since I last saw someone else use 'specialise' instead of 'specialize'. :D <3

I don't think I'd go there either. For the price, I'd rather have a meal at Gordon Ramsay's. -.-
